From Køppe Contemporary Objects / We are proud to present the glass installation ‘wander / wonder’ by Ida Wieth.
Ever since her first manifestations, Ida Wieth has moved far beyond conventional crafted glassware, thus freeing herself from object categories and dogmas, operating in a sculptural and installation-artistic field. She works with glass that she combines with other materials such as metals, ceramics, and wood to bring forth artistic concepts and aesthetic innovation. Ida Wieth combines the artistically poetical, with the tangible knowledge of materials and techniques of the artisan, in a highly expressive and emotional manner
Technique:
The installation consists of 6 bundles of mouth blown and stretched glass tubes (hollow cane-technique) with iron oxides. The tubes have been layered and fused together in a large kiln. The iron oxides, added to the glass during the blowing process, both melts into and at the same time elevates from the surface. This contributes to a coarse and fragmented texture in contrast to the delicate and transparent glass, bearing reminiscences of traces found in nature.
